About One Mountain Zen

American Zen derived from the Soen/Thien traditions along with Theravada and Fuke-Shu influence.

Our ancestors start with Great Teacher Shakayamuni Buddha, run through Bodhidharma (first Ch'an Patriarch in China) and Huineng (6th Patriarch) to Chinul & Man Gong in Korea.
Zen Master Seung Sahn emigrated from Korea in the early 1970's to become one of the first teachers of Seon (Korean Zen) in America. He was one of the teachers of Ven. Wonji Dharma, teacher of Taesan Dharma, who in turn is the teacher Myeong Jin Eunsahn, teacher of Brier Haengdal Citta.

Brier has studied Theravada, Renzai, Soto,  Thien and Fuke-Shu prior to receiving ordination with the Original Mind/One mind collective.

One Mountain is his humble attempt to honor the gifts of teachings shared with him and express thanksgiving by continuing the practice.

One Mountain is part of the East Mountain Sanghas, a confederation of sanghas and teachers that has grown out of the Original Mind Zen Sangha, founded by Andre Taesan Halaw in Princeton, New Jersey in 2012. Andre was a student of the late Wonji Dharma, founder of the former Five Mountain Zen Order. While Wonji drew upon several traditions, we draw our traditions and teaching styles primarily from Korean Buddhism, especially its Son (Zen) traditions, as brought to the United States by Zen Master Seung Sahn.
